Intelligent Information Systems
The Research Group for Intelligent Information Systems develops new approaches to gain access to information in complex networked application environments.
We build solutions for specific applications and customer requirements using state-of-the-art software development methods. Our experts place a special focus on the arts, media and safety & security markets, bringing to bear their extensive expertise in database management systems (RDBMS), client-server technologies, service-oriented architectures (SOA) and Rich Internet applications. Our customers benefit from these technologies through more efficient production processes and workflows.
We have special expertise in the following research areas:
- Knowledge representation and semantic technologies (Semantic Web) designed for knowledge modelling and mapping in information systems. The Semantic Web allows the management of distributed information and knowledge and thus provides the foundation for automatic linking and processing of information.
- Analysis of user behaviour and activities, information dissemination in social networks and user generated content in Web 2.0 or Social Web applications. These approaches are also becoming increasingly relevant for communication processes within and between companies, where they are termed Enterprise 2.0 und Corporate Web 2.0.
- Information security deals with the confidentiality, availability and integrity of ICT applications, especially in critical infrastructure (crisis management, energy supply and transport). Developments are aimed at the intelligent management of dynamically adaptable information flows and real-time processing of vast data volumes for decision support systems.
- The Research Group has also been actively involved in the successful development of cultural applications, as demonstrated by the software packages imdas pro and archivis, which have become leading products for the documentation and archiving of cultural objects. The two solutions are constantly being developed further and adapted to the state of the art and the changing needs of the market.
