Industrial image analysis

Knot Detection with X-Ray Eyes
The detection and measuring of knots play an important role in the timber industry.

Automated Straightening of Steel Bars
The company Böhler currently uses three straightening presses for the adjustment and final processing of rolled steel bars.

Automatic Classification of Lumber
For the production of certain types of pulp, the paper industry requires lumber with a minimum percentage of bark.

Color measurements for durability prediction of larch heartwood
Beside various chemical protection methods the selection of suited samples of wood species with a high resistance against different forms of fungal decays can improve the durability remarkable.

DIBINE Turbine Blade Measurement
Concave and convex cross sections of a vast variety of components must be measured for correct geometry as part of the quality assurance process.

DIBR3D – Robot Based 3D Measurement
Complex steel parts are often produced using thermal forming processes.

DIRIS - Inspection of Rail Surfaces
The final visual check of high quality rails is usually performed by specially trained personnel who inspect the rail surface closely for defects, even turning the rails over in the process if necessary.

DotscanOn
In the paper industry several paper quality types are differentiated, characterised by the number, size and distribution of dirt particles in the end product.

FMG - Flatness Measurement Gauge
High-precision rails assure smooth running of trains and maximum passenger safety in rail traffic.

Reliable Tablet Quality Control
Tablets are sometimes provided with laser perforation so that the active pharmaceutical ingredients can become fully effective.

DIPAG - parquet grading
A parquet floor of high quality is characterised not only by a lack of defects but also by its ability to impart a warm feeling to a room. And this makes a difference - and provides innovative parquet suppliers with a marketing advantage over their competitors.

PMG - Profile Measurement Gauge
JOANNEUM RESEARCH has developed an opto-electronic profile measuring instrument for contactless, fully-automated measurement of concave and convex components.

Optimum Cutting Results by Opto-electronic Timber Sorting
Wood is being appreciated by a growing number of people and employed in many different areas. Making optimal use of this material, which means achieving the best possible quality from each piece, is both an economic and ecological necessity.

Sawmill of the Future - Computer Tomography in Sawmills
Sawyers assess the quality of logs based on what they see on the surface - the risk of faulty cuts is accordingly high.

Mobility applications

DIBMETSAT
Digitale Bildverarbeitung gestützte Meteorologie-Services für Air Traffic Management.

MVM²
Kameras sind sehr flexibel einsetzbare Sensoren die über die Jahre immer leistungsfähiger, kompakter und kostengünstiger geworden sind.

NET FLOW
A system for analysing passenger flow and transfer behaviour at changing points in public transportation networks.

Human-centred image analysis

BioSecure: Biometrics for Secure Authentication
The September 11th and March 11th disasters have demonstrated the urgency of a more secured world.

EBIDAVROS – Endoscopic image-guided diagnose of precancerous changes in case of Barretts-Oesophagus
Besides the therapeutic implication the emphasis of the gastrointestinal endoscopy lies on the recognition of malignant changes or their early stages in the entire gastrointestinal tract. Even with high-definition endoscopes those changes are still not macroscopically visible.

iFingerSys
Fingerprints are the biometric features most widely used for personal identification.

Feasibility Study Human-Centered Image Processing
Analyzing market opportunities regarding medical image analysis and biometrics and development of concrete project proposals and product ideas.

NäviSelfInspect
Feasibility Study: Dermoscopic lens with polarization

ReDeform – Registration of deformable bodies
ReDeform is an efficiency-enhancement for the current procedure of radiation therapy planning on CT data within the ENT region

SimuWound – Simulation of wound developments depending on therapy and life style
Currently about 350.000 people in Austria suffer from, mostly chronically, wound healing dysfunctions mainly caused by diabetes, peripheral arterial vascular disease, chronically venereal diseases, pressure ulcers (immobile patients) or postoperative disorders. The goal of the project is to give a prediction based on the current situation. In addition several factors have to be included to show deviations due to the applied therapy and different life styles.

Skin Mapping
In dermatology, assessment of localization and extent of skin involvement is often a pre-requisite for therapy planning and for the assessment of therapeutic effects, particularly in clinical studies concerning investigational new drugs.
