The research group develops systems in the fields of acoustic monitoring, vibrations and audio & multimedia.
Very little research work has been done on the automatic recognition of general acoustic signals, in particular in the audible range. The research group has specialised in this technology for many years and is now one of the key players worldwide.

Acoustic monitoring provides an additional modality supplying complementary information. A system involving both visual and acoustic monitoring is more stable and can detect a wider variety of incidents than a system relying on one modality only.

Our team has a wide range of expertise required for the development of complete systems under real conditions: acoustic data acquisition and management including sensor and measurement technology, digital signal processing including artificial intelligence methods and algorithms as well as software architecture and development for acoustic real-time systems. Our ability to provide comprehensive solutions allows us to develop complete systems from the first idea through to the fully functional prototype, which is of major importance in many industrial sectors.

The main fields of application include safety & mobility, production & manufacture and the creative industry & digital media.
