Jobs in Creative Industries in Vienna

The results have been presented at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna on Nov. 11, 2006

The project “Sustainable Work and Employment in Vienna’s Creative Industries” analyses successful arrangements for sustainable work and employment in the creative industries in Vienna through comparisons between dynamic sub-sectors (Advertising, Architecture, Graphics/Design/Fashion, Film/Video/Broadcasting, Multimedia). The results are based on a quantitative online-survey of over 900 people and on qualitative interviews of 55 people. The Project analyses working conditions, careers and patterns of coping with work. We are able to demonstrate that there is significant pressure on those working in these industries. This results mainly from the fact that most are self-employed and consequently their order position is insecure and they lack strategies to grow their own micro-businesses. The respondents have, however, developed coping strategies to deal with these pressures.
