Main Responsibilities
Currently Dr. Kupfersberger oversees several projects dealing with different aspects of numerical groundwater modeling. Furthermore, he is involved in international water resources management projects.
Career
Dr. Kupfersberger studied civil engineering at the Technical Universities of Aachen, Berlin and Vienna. In 1994 he completed his Ph.D. in the area of data integration to improve groundwater modeling. After spending two years as a researcher at Stanford University Dr. Kupfersberger joined the Institute of Hydrogeology and Geothermics of the JOANNEUM RESEARCH.
His main interests include numerical modeling in porous and fractured aquifers and the application of geostatistical methods to hydrologic problems.
Dr. Kupfersberger is the principal author of more than 10 peer reviewed papers in international journals and is member of the American Geophysical Union, the National Ground Water Association and the International Association for Mathematical Geology.
Teaching activity
Dr. Kupfersberger has taught individual classes in the area of water resources management, hydraulics and groundwater management at the TU Vienna and in the area of reservoir characterization at Stanford University. Additionally he was a co-instructor of the university course "Introduction to Groundwater Modeling" and has lectured on several topics within the UNESCO Postgraduate Training Course on Groundwater Tracing Techniques and the IAEA Training Course on Isotope Hydrology. |
