STATUS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ACTIVITIES/STATE ORGANISATIONS

Climate changes status activities:
Ecuador has ratified the UNFCCC on November/94 as well the Kyoto Protocol on Dicember/1999. One National Communication has been delivered (2000 ). The National Climate Committee was created in 1999, where the Ministry of the Environment is the President. In order to promote, improve capacity building and train technical staff on the elaboration and implementation of CDM projects, the Corporation for the promotion of CDM (CORDELIM) was created in 2001, as an independent body with representation of the private, productive, academic and government sectors. The Min. Of Environment leads the CORDELIM. In May 2003, the National Authority within the Ministry of Environment was created to establish the sustainable management criteria, approve CDM projects at the national level and register them. Only two reforestation projects have started under the CDM guidelines (Profafor and Fundación Jatun Sacha).
