Electrode structuring for medical implants (ESMI)

The project aims on developing an inkjet technology for fabrication of platinum electrodes in cochlea implants. Such cochlea implants enable rehabilitation of deaf childs and adults. Geometry, flexibility and design of stimulation electrodes are crucial for functionality and effectiveness of the implant. The project is focused on the development of a direct write technique (inkjet) for deposition and patterning of platinum on a flexible and biocompatible polymer substrate. This could pave the way towards precise, high density electrode arrays. This may allow for a variety of new geometries for patients with different disposition.
