Water is one of the most essential elements of life. Availability of adequate and clean water is the basis for sustainable development and human welfare. The Institute of Water Resources Management is actively involved in basic and applied research, scientific consulting and training aimed at ensuring a sustainable water supply and safeguarding water resources for generations to come. Services range from investigation and exploration to the development of concepts for sustainable development, protection and management of water resources.
Hydrological, hydrogeological and geophysical methods are applied to study the sustainability of surface water resources, shallow and deep groundwater reserves and geothermal systems, and to investigate other natural resources, subsurface structures and characteristics.
As experts in this field, the researchers play a major role in establishing (inter)national networks. They not only solve immediate water issues in the context of numerous international projects, but also contribute to a sustainable transfer of know-how, above all to economically disadvantaged regions, thanks to ongoing (further) training programmes.
