Career
Aleksey I. SHAROV graduated (with honors) from the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MSUGK) and worked as a Dipl. Engineer, Head of laboratory and University lecturer. He got a Ph.D. and was awarded the degree of Associate Professor from the MSUGK. Afterwards he worked as a researcher and scholar at the Institute for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry, TU Graz. A.Sharov received his second Ph.D. of Techn. Sc. (with honors) from the TU Graz and maintained his habilitation devoted to satellite monitoring in the High Arctic at MSUGK.
Since 1998, he is a senior scientist and research manager at the Joanneum Research (Institute of Digital Image Processing). He initiated and managed / coordinated many international research projects related with polar remote sensing, glacier monitoring and mapping. DDr. Sharov participated in 6 expeditions to the European High Arctic as an expedition leader / member. He authored over 70 publications and inventions in the area of polar remote sensing and glacier monitoring. Aleksey I.Sharov belongs to the Group of EU project evaluators.
Teaching Activity
A.Sharov was a visiting professor at the Institute of Geography, University Salzburg ("Environmental Monitoring in the Arctic" 1998) and at the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Helsinki University of Technology (“Satellite Rheology of Ice Fields” 2004). He supervised 12 diploma works and 2 dissertations.
Awards
DDr. Sharov received the M.V.Lomonosov State Award for research efforts in the European High Arctic (17.11.2006). |
