Heinz Mayer graduated from the Graz University of Technology with a master degree in Telematics and a Ph.D. from the same University.
Prior to his position at JOANNEUM RESEARCH he was with MAGNA STEYR Fahrzeugtechnik from 2001 to 2007 holding different positions. First as IT-Projectmanager and finally with growing management responsibility as head of the engineering informationmanagement division. Beside the professional activities during 2003 - 2005 he was the industry coordinator of the work area 3 (Virtual Engineering) at the competence center "The Virtual Vehicle" and chairman of the ProductLifeLive conference in 2007.
A period of research oriented activities and academic career precedes the industrial employment. From 1997 to 2001 he worked as university assistant for the Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision and in addition to that as a lecturer and reviewer at the Hagenberg Campus. He was acting as a research assistant for the EC-project Synap 9301 in the area of digital mammography time between masters degree and Ph.D. thesis. Digital Imaging, Machine Vision and Computer Graphics were not only during this period of time in his focus but also an important issue along his study.
