The Human Factors laboratory combines the most advanced measurement instruments with innovative analytical software for the performance of large-scale studies in the field of “Human Factors and Ergonomics”.

Eye-tracking glasses for traffic safety studies

In the Human Factors laboratory, studies of attention levels can be carried out while measuring stress and emotion with the most recent eye-tracking technology:

  1. with multi-sensory equipment that performs eye-tracking and takes physiological measurements (stress, emotion) as well as collects information about movements (extremities)
  2. In motion studies, „wearable sensor“ interfaces (eye-tracking glasses and motion sensors) can be used to dynamically describe patterns of different movements and corresponding lines of vision, and assign them to their respective pattern of motion.
  3. Stimuli-response measurements in the context of visual information (video, movies, pictures). Using static eye tracking measurement methods, comprehensive and rigorous studies in the areas of market research (product and placement research), evaluation of directions (signage), and video analysis can be carried out.

With the “wearable sensor” equipment, attention studies in the areas of marketing (attention in business areas), usability (mobile devices, control systems), Human Factors (drivers, driver assistance, driver safety, etc.) and sports (tennis, soccer, skiing, etc.) can easily be conducted outdoors.


The equipment for Human Factors measurements includes:

  •  A static eye tracker (SMI RED500), 500 Hz binocular, spatial resolution of 0.03°
  • Eye- tracking glasses (SMI), 30 Hz, parallax compensation, HD 1280 x 960 pixel scene video with gaze annotation, BeGaze editing software, positioning accuracy of 0.5-1°, field of view 70° horizontal x 55° vertical
  • Mobile eye tracking (SMI iView X ™ HED), MPEG-4 scene video with gaze annotation
  • Physiological measurements of skin conductance (Affectiva Q Sensor)
  • Measurements with multi-sensor equipment (audio measurements, emotion classification with video camera)
  • FACTS multi-sensor toolbox for multi-channel analysis of psychophysiological measurements and simultaneous attention measurement

Innovative study evaluations with international research methods:

  • Cooperation with the Karl-Franzens-University, Institute of Psychology (classification of psychophysiological measurements)
  • Cooperation with the Technical University of Graz, Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision (emotion classification, 3D reconstruction)
  • Cooperation with the Technical University of Munich, Institute for Human-Machine Communication (classification of audio data)
