DIGITAL Technologies for 3D visualization for Mars mission 2020

The 3D GIS MINERVA, which is developed by JR, VRVis and EOX for a collaborative, holistic planetary science data infrastructure, allows members of different instrument teams to cooperate synergistically in virtual workspaces by sharing observation information, analysing and annotating the data.

The ExoMars Rover “Rosalind Franklin” will land on Mars in spring 2021. JOANNEUM RESEARCH - DIGITAL and VRVis are developing the 3D vision processing and visualization of the stereo camera instruments PanCam, NavCam and LocCam - supported by the Natural History Museum Vienna (Prof. Koeberl).

The technologies developed in the MINERVA project allow instrument data of planetary surfaces to be combined and three-dimensionally visualized. MINERVA, a cooperation between JOANNEUM RESEARCH, VRVis and EOX, used a combination of Big Data, visualization and 3D database technologies.
