Our scientists from the Remote Sensing and Geoinformation research group won two of the four challenges at the Space4Energy Hackathon in the categories "Space4Biomass" and "Space4Wind".

Category "Space4Biomass": Wins the start-up BeetleForTech around founder Sebastian Vogler - in cooperation with Janik Deutscher, Martin Puhm and Andreas Wimmer, JOANNEUM RESEARCH.

Category "Space4Wind": Sahir Khan, Lukas Prenner and Karlheinz Gutjahr (JOANNEUM RESEARCH) win as a freshly founded team.

The Space4Energy Hackathon, hosted by ESA BIC, Green Energy Lab and BMK, addressed the question of how our increasingly integrated sustainable energy systems can benefit from the wealth of satellite data and services. A total of 17 project ideas were submitted in four challenges. Together with their challenge partners, our scientists presented innovative solutions for site optimization for wind power plants and for surveying biomass potential after storms. With both project ideas, Karlheinz Gutjahr and Janik Deutscher and their respective teams were able to convince the expert jury and secured victory in their respective challenges.
