Best Paper Award for RegionAAL and Smart VitAALity

The team of researchers Kurt Majcen (JOANNEUM RESEARCH, Institute DIGITAL), Johanna Plattner, Daniela E. Ströckl, Daniela Krainer and Johannes Oberzaucher (Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Institute for Applied Research on Ageing) as well as Kerstin Löffler (Geriatric Health Care Centres Graz), Eva Schuster (Sozialverein Deutschlandsberg), Pierre Schaschl (ilogs mobile software GmbH) have been awarded with the Best Position Award for the paper "AAL Pilot Concepts in Carinthia and Styria".


The paper was presented at ICT4AWE – The 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health, in Heraklion, Greece. The paper describes and compares implementation and evaluation concepts of the Austrian AAL test-region projects RegionAAL und Smart VitAALity run in the provinces of Styria and Carinthia.

The International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Ageing Well and e-Health (ICT4AWE) is about information and communication technologies which assist people staying healthier, more independent and active. Best practices, innovation and technical improvements in fields like age and health care, education, psychology, social coordination and ambient assisted living are dealt with in this conference. Several awards are awarded at the conference: Best Paper Award, Best Student Paper Award, Best Position Award, Best Poster Award, Best PhD Project Award.

 

ABSTRACT
Seven pilot region projects for developing and evaluating Active and Assisted Living technologies are implemented in Austria until 2019. Two of them (RegionAAL in Styria and Smart VitAALity in Carinthia) are introduced in this paper according to their realization, implementation and evaluation concepts. The first results and perceptions of these pilot regions are also described.
