The challenge of our time

In the context of digitization and digital transformation, data is now accumulating in almost all areas of life, the use of which can unleash considerable economic, scientific and social potential. However, the professional application of data faces a number of challenges and problems:

  • Lack of expertise and skilled workers
  • technical challenges of insufficient data integration and interface problems
  • lack of confidence to outsource sensitive data and own know-how to external services and companies.
     

Project goal

The IKT flagship project PRESENT addresses these problems and solves them with a new software architecture with an innovative security-by-design approach that is suitable for even the most sensitive data, meets the highest security requirements, and is so user-friendly that no statistics or computer science experts are needed to operate it. The project not only extends the state of the art in security, data analysis and data processing, but also addresses a wide range of specific requirements in several industries: manufacturing, healthcare and facility management serve as application examples.

PRESENT will provide an important impetus both for companies seeking to gain a competitive advantage through the use of sensitive data and for the scientific community with visibility far beyond Austria.

 

Our know-how

We as JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungs gmbH are represented in this project by two institutes. The expert teams of DIGITAL and ROBOTICS are represented as consortium partners and work together across institutes.

The researchers of the research group Cyber Security and Defence from the institute DGITAL focus on the security of AI-based systems in the work package on "Secure Systems" and participate in research work for time-based anomaly detection to increase cyber security.

The ROBOTICS team leads the work package on interfaces and interoperability and focuses on the efficient acquisition, processing and provision of heterogeneous data sets as well as on the prototypical development and evaluation of soft sensors.
