DIGITAL has developed the archival information system KLAIS for the Carinthian Provincial Archives. During this development, an existing proprietary database solution was migrated over to archivis pro. KLAIS also contains a web module that allows free access over the Internet to the archivial information system. Interested parties can easily conduct research using the data accessible in the catalogs of the Carinthian Provincial Archives from any location. A total of over 300,000 units of description are available for online research (e.g., nearly 5,000 club records, more than 10,000 deeds, more than 11,000 postcards).

imdas pro and archivis pro are based on a relational database management system and are designed as client-server model applications that can, however, also be introduced into a single station unit with the full range of features. Thus, appropriate solutions can be developed individually for large organizations with several million objects as well as for small museums.

The consistent management of important data such as personal information, thesauri and master data item lists ensures the uniform registration of objects and, thus, guarantees a high hit rate during search queries. Amendments and changes to these master data can only be performed by authorized users. These users can also define data fields without programming knowledge and add data input masks. In addition, these fields are immediately available for data research, printing and exportation. This allows individual requirements to be quickly and easily fulfilled.

In addition to the scientific documentation of objects, we also focus on the management of digital images. In a separate media component, the preferred number of images or other digital documents can be stored for each object.

Our solutions are also considered open solutions; i.e., data can be exported or imported in standardized formats. This is of great importance when routing catalog information to higher-level web portals. The integration with existing specialized applications such as geographic information systems can also be implemented with relatively little effort.
