On June 23, marking the International Women in Engineering Day, the "Evening with Women in Engineering 2020" took place – for the first time as an online event. JOANNEUM RESEARCH once again supported this year's event as a partner company.

Johanna Schmidt (VRVis Co-Head of Visual Analytics; IEEE Austria Women in Engineering Vice-Chair) reported why diversity in technology is important not only within teams but also in data science, in order to achieve better results.

Joanne Schell (NXP Semiconductors Quality Manager) explained that especially in the current corona situation so-called typical male leadership styles prove to be deficient and that sustainable leadership styles have to meet inclusion and consensus.

Renate Rossoll-Krompaß (NXP Semiconductors Austria Complaint Handling Manager) pointed out the problems of the Gender Pension Gap and the possibilities of realizing part-time leadership in technical areas. Commitment and clear communication of availability are essential.

Using a live online survey, the ca. 50 participants shared their experiences and perspectives on the challenges of working life in engineering.
