In the accompanying IUFRO exhibition, more than 2,200 participants were able to get to know innovations from and for the forestry sector. At their booth, JOANNEUM RESEARCH DIGITAL presented together with Umweltdata the module ADAM for worldwide airborne data acquisition with special focus on forestry applications. Further, the possibilities of latest time series data from the EU’s Copernicus Earth Observation program were presented. Dr Mathias Schardt and DrManuela Hirschmugl, Experts of Institute DIGITAL, delivered two oral scientific presentations in respective sessions.

The focus of the presentation at the SilviLaser booth was on Smart Forest Inventory. With the usage of light aircraft and drones in addition to satellite images and wall-to-wall data from airborne sensors as well as the additional terrestrial laser scanning, individual trees and their parameters can be assessed. The results, despite extremely reduced time and cost, exceed those of conventional methods in terms of accuracy. In addition, Dr Manuela Hirschmugl presented a digital poster for the assessment of the vertical forest stand structure in the dedicated poster session.
