The GLCM is a measure of how often different combinations of neighboring pixel values occur. It was primarily designed for texture classification of two-dimensional images. It is a method widely used in many application domains, such as image classification of satellite, sea-ice images, magnetic resonance, or computed tomography images. In the course of a research project for OMV AG a workflow for the full 3D calculation of GLCM-based attributes was developed. For this purpose the interpretation software OpendTect (dGB Earth Sciences) was chosen. The development of the workflow led to a cooperation with OMV and dGB Earth Sciences with the aim to publish the workflow as a plugin for OpendTect. This plugin was released on 27th of October 2014 as an inherent part of OpendTect 5.0 (www.opendtect.org).
