In Austria multiple dwellings have hardly been used for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants. The aim of the project PV4residents (call “Stadt der Zukunft” of the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, project no. 850126) is to enable a higher application of them on such buildings by addressing a prosumer approach. The produced electricity will be consumed to a large share by the residents and not fully fed into the grid, unburdening the grids and bringing possible economic benefits to the residents. Surplus electricity is planned to distribute to the municipality, if possible. Home building companies in Graz and Salzburg, residents of two multiple dwellings, an electricity provider, and other stakeholders participate in the project. Technical options, as well as legal, administrative and user related barriers will be investigated. Also an economic assessment is currently carried out. On the basis of this information the service and business model is under development.
