DI Gerhard Paar...

... is 3D vision expert at the DIGITAL Institute and co-investigator in the Science Team of the Mars Rover recently launched in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The Mars vehicle named Perseverance is scheduled to land on our neighbouring planet in February 2021. The aim is to study the geological processes, climate and history of the planet in more detail. Gerhard Paar is playing a key role in the development of the "eyes" of Perseverance, the Mastcam-Z stereoscopic camera system with zoom lens. Together with VRVis, those 3D processing and visualization mechanisms are being developed which will generate the 3D models for geological interpretation from 2021 to 2022, in order to analyze clues to old water and other traces of life and to identify samples for a return to earth. >read more
