Development of high-resolution printing technologies - Start of the HI-ACCURACY project
Online kick-off meeting
Due to the CoV19 pandemic, an already planned kick-off meeting, with the coordinator JOANNEUM RESEARCH as host, was cancelled and replaced by a web conference. Thus, HI-ACCURACY was launched in an online kick-off meeting on April 15th, 2020, which was attended by 33 researchers from 11 partner organizations in 6 European countries. During the meeting, the entire consortium successfully planned the next steps. In addition, an External Expert Advisory Board was appointed during the meeting to facilitate a qualified external view. This Board will supply technical input throughout the entire project term. Despite this situation, the HI-ACCURACY project was successfully launched and the foundation for a successful project was laid.
According to current estimates, the global market for printed, flexible and organic electronics amounts to 28.3 billion euros with an annual growth rate of >8%. This market is mainly dominated by the display industry, which is looking for new and innovative ways to increase screen resolution and incorporate new user interfaces throughout the display range. High-resolution printing technology is an important factor in achieving these goals.
HI-ACCURACY aims to produce structures with very high resolution up to the μm range and thus the next generation of large area production of flexible organic electronics. This goal is to be achieved through a unique range of advanced materials and printing inks combined with scalable, cost-effective printing and coating processes that require no or minimal vacuum. HI-ACCURACY will thus demonstrate the production of front and backplane structures with structure sizes approaching 1 μm that can operate at frequencies of >1MHz.
HI-ACCURACY is an ambitious project representing a pan-European consortium of world leading research centers and cutting-edge SMEs that are looking to develop and commercialize these technologies of European origin. The consortium consists of 11 companies and research organizations along the entire value chain of high definition printing technologies, namely JOANNEUM RESEARCH - MATERIALS as coordinator, Precision Varionic International Ltd, Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy, NeuDrive Limited, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V., Dycotec Materials Ltd, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, University College London, Interuniversitair Micro-Electronica Centrum (IMEC), Bionanonet Forschungsgesellschaft mbH.
