The first project managed by ROBOTICS was launched in January 2015. “CollRob - Collaborative Robotics” is carried out in cooperation with the MATERIALS and DIGITAL institutes with funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology. The project is aimed at investigating and developing new methods for collaborative robots. Successful cooperation between humans and robots requires comprehensive sensory perception of the environment on the part of the robot and smooth mutual interaction between human and machine in task planning and execution. Human safety must always be an essential factor in this context.

The multidisciplinary nature of the proposed research requires not only know-how in classical robotics but also a range of complementary expertise, which can be found in the JOANNEUM RESEARCH portfolio. The present project supports the sustained build-up of robotics expertise and helps establish JOANNEUM RESEARCH as a strong research partner in this promising area both at regional and EU level.
