Potential cyber security risks of the communication architecture in a critical infrastructure use case
The Internet of Things connects physical devices with the Internet. These often have a high amount of possible attack points. Especially in use cases in critical infrastructures, it is important to be aware of such potentially attacking points in order to set countermeasures. Therefore, it is important to formally evaluate protocols used by the devices and the overall architecture in order to prevent weak points due to design.
This thesis considers potential cyber security issues for a use case in critical infrastructures (e.g. in smart grid). For this use case, in particular security risks are to be addressed, resulting from the entire communication architecture.
- Describe use case and its communication architecture
- Detect and describe potential security risks, threats and their implications
Based on the detected security risks and threats, improvements for the communication architecture shall be derived
- Cyber Security background
- Knowledge in computer networks (TCP/IP, OSI model) and network security
- Basic knowledge in IoT concepts (preferable)
- Programming skills (preferable)
- Willing to write publication
Starting: January 2020 (negotiable)
Duration: 6 month
