These pathways should not only be scientifically sound, but above all socially balanced – i.e. they should specifically include and empower disadvantaged groups such as older people or low-income households.

There is a particular focus on co-creation: all measures are to be developed in dialogue with city administrations, citizens' initiatives, local universities and other relevant stakeholders. In this way, both the needs of the population and scientific findings are to be incorporated into the planning process.

AI tool will provide information on climate adaptation

To support decision-making processes, the project team is also developing an AI-based tool that makes information on climate adaptation easily accessible and usable for local authorities. In addition, models are being created that will enable the potential effects of planned measures to be better assessed.

The LIFE Institute coordinates the pilot activities.

The JustREACH project is funded under the European research programme HORIZON, has a duration of four years and a total budget of four million euros. LIFE coordinates the activities in the pilot regions together with the Belgian company Think E, designs the conceptual approaches and organises data collection. Funding for LIFE amounts to 350,000 euros.

Further information about the project:

CORDIS-project website

JustREACH LinkedIn

Ziel des Projekts ist es, lokale Entscheidungsträger*innen dabei zu unterstützen, sozial gerechte Maßnahmen zur Anpassung an den Klimawandel zu entwerfen und umzusetzen.
