Abstract:

An opto-chemical method for the measurement of oxygen permeabilities across polymeric membranes
is presented. At the heart of the method is a sensitive element comprising an immobilized dye whose
luminescence is quenched by the presence of oxygen molecules. The luminescent response of the dye is
continuously recorded by an opto-electronic readout module in a contactless and non-invasive manner.
Provided with this sensitive oxygen detection system, a measurement cell capable of monitoring the rise
of oxygen concentration as a result of its permeation across the sample was developed.
