  • Administration of premedication.

Sign-in by nursing staff in the pre-OP area

  • Check whether the surgical site is marked and surgical consent has been obtained.
  • Checking the equipment and relevant warnings.

Sign-in by anaesthetists

  • Patient identification.
  • Check whether the surgical site is marked and anaesthesia consent is available.
  • Checking the equipment and relevant warnings.
  • Review of antibiotic prophylaxis and provision of erythrocyte concentrate.
  • Check respiratory tracts and aspiration risk.

  • Patient identification.
  • Information about the type of operation.
  • Examination of the surgical site, patient positioning, warnings, antibiotic prophylaxis.
  • Special features and equipment.
  • Necessity of imaging procedures.

Sign-out


  • Checking surgical textiles/tamponades for completeness.
  • Instruments, labelling of samples.
  • Postoperative instructions from the surgeon or anaesthetist.
