The Project

RENOMIZE explores technologies for automated, serial renovation that enable energy-efficient building retrofits to be carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible. The aim is to achieve energy savings in the shortest possible time. Various approaches are being employed, including robotic cranes and flexible production concepts for manufacturers' factories.

Our activities within the project

On the one hand, we are responsible for the overall coordination of the project within the RENOMIZE consortium, and on the other hand, we are focusing on the optimisation of off-site manufacturing processes. In addition, we are involved in the development of the robot end effector for attaching the anchors. JOANENUM RESEARCH LIFE is responsible for impact assessment, LCA, performance assessment and validation within the project.

Project Details

RENOMIZE is an EU project within the framework of Horizon Europe, coordinated by JOANNEUM RESEARCH. The consortium, consisting of 16 members from research and industry, develops expertise and technical innovations for more sustainable and efficient building renovation processes.

The project addresses challenges such as:

  • Integration of renewable energies into existing building infrastructures
  • Cost-efficient renovation processes Cost-efficient renovation processes through digitalisation and automation, both on the construction site and at the manufacturers' facilities
  • Reducing material consumption and recycling in construction
  • Adaptation to different climatic conditions in Europe

The innovations are intended to help maximise the benefits of energy-efficient building renovation as quickly as possible by automating the renovation work. There is a particular focus on modular, scalable and digital solutions. The developments are being tested in Switzerland and Spain in disruptive environments. The innovations will then be tested under real-life conditions at four demonstration sites in Estonia, Switzerland, France and Belgium.
