JOANNEUM RESEARCH DIGITAL presented innovative know-how and solutions based on artificial intelligence at A&T Nord-Est, one of the most important trade fairs for industrial automation, additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence in northern Italy, from 6 to 8 November. At the SMACT joint stand, we were able to showcase our expertise in the field of acoustic monitoring solutions and arouse the interest of well-known industrial visitors.

We were particularly pleased to collaborate with SMACT, an Italian competence centre for Industry 4.0, which was founded on the initiative of the Italian Ministry for Economic Development. SMACT is a public-private partnership (PPP) in which universities and companies work together to implement so-called ‘SMACT’ technologies: Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT). This cooperation pools knowledge from science and business to promote the development and integration of digital solutions for industry. The collaboration with SMACT offers JOANNEUM RESEARCH an ideal platform to present its developments in the field of AI-supported acoustic monitoring in a practical environment and to further develop them in cooperation with Italian partners.

A microphone array specially developed for intelligent acoustic monitoring applications was exhibited at the stand. The demonstration of the system was met with great interest by the visitors, who included numerous representatives of companies from the northern Italian industrial sector. Particularly noteworthy was the discussion with a representative of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), who was enthusiastic about the potential applications of this technology in the field of tunnel safety.

Matthias Rüther, Head of JOANNEUM RESEARCH DIGITAL, was able to meet the management of SMACT as well as high-ranking representatives from business and science, such as Prof Fabrizio Dughiero from the University of Padua and Franco Scolari, Director of the Pordenone Technological Park. Among other things, a visit to Bolzano was planned during the talks in order to further intensify the cooperation and initiate joint projects.

A highlight of the trade fair appearance was the workshop by Daniele Cozzi, who presented JOANNEUM RESEARCH's innovative solutions in the field of acoustic monitoring to an expert audience of around 50 participants and explained practical application examples.
