„Auf dem Schöckl“: The book about Graz's leisure hotspot with a scientific highlight

There is a new book about the ultimate leisure paradise for everyone in Graz. "On the Schöckl. 1 mountain. 4 seasons. 100 possibilities" is now on sale, and authors Elke Jauk-Offner and Harald Eisenberger tell a lot of exciting stories about Graz's local mountain. Karlheinz Gutjahr from Institut DIGITAL contributed to this book, as he is an expert on the Corner Reflector positioned on the Schöckl.

A separate book chapter is dedicated to our scientific highlight. This corner reflector helps to analyse and better understand the wave propagation of so-called SAR signals in great detail. It is part of a network around Graz with two identical corner reflectors at Graz-Thalerhof airport and one each at Lustbühel and on the Schöckl plateau. The distances to the Sentinel-1 satellite are measured at regular intervals with millimetre precision.

The technology is unique in that it can detect movements within millimetres and works regardless of the weather or time of day. These precise measurements allow conclusions to be drawn about current atmospheric conditions, as well as changes in the earth's surface, and are important for improving safety in areas that could be affected by landslides or other ground movements.

You can find more information about the book on the publisher's website!
