The research group is responsible for recording and analysing vibration data using a measuring locomotive. The sub-project is concerned with assessing the condition of the railway infrastructure, in particular switches. With the help of condition monitoring algorithms, cost-efficient and predictive maintenance of switches is to be made possible. To this end, a signal processing chain is being developed that analyses data from a line scan camera in addition to vibration data.

The aim of the project is to evaluate the dynamic behaviour and condition of the railway network as well as long-term trends in railway structures. By combining data from different sources and integrating innovative modelling techniques, a digital twin is to be created as an image of sections of track.
On the one hand, this should enable predictive maintenance, as wear and mechanical damage are recognised before faults occur. On the other hand, the digital twin should facilitate the introduction of new solutions and products (for more informations click here)
