HelEX consortium visits LIFE in Graz

How can you make sunflowers resistant to heat and drought? The EU project HelEx revolves around this question. We welcomed representatives of all project partners to Graz from 15 to 17 October to discuss the results and the next steps in the project.

Our programme included a special excursion by the consortium to Haidegg where we visited the Haidegg Experimental Station for Fruit Growing and Viticulture. They presented results from the Agri-PV system installed in 2022 and the potential for dual utilisation of land through Agri-PV systems in combination with fruit crops. In particular, rain protection helps to combat important fungal diseases in fruit cultivation such as scab, marssonina and blossom monilia. This enables cultivation with less plant protection. Furthermore, the modules benefit from the cooling effect of the underlying vegetation.

Coordinated by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRAE) from France, HelEx is an international project involving 15 international partners. Find more information about the project here!
