The meeting not only offered the approximately 50 participants a wide range of current topics related to photonics, lighting technology and quantum technologies, but also provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing collaborations and generate new impetus for research and development.
Paul Hartmann, Director of JOANNEUM RESEARCH MATERIALS and member of the Photonics Austria Executive Board, presented the audit report for the previous year together with Heinz Seyringer from V-Research, also a member of the Photonics Austria Executive Board, presented last year's audit report and provided insights into the work of the Executive Board.
The two exciting specialist presentations were particularly noteworthy:
- Martin Melchart (qtlabs) presented innovative approaches to coating brake discs using high-speed laser cladding, an important contribution to the implementation of the EURO 7 standard.
- In his presentation on deep-space optical communication, Martin Bohmann (Weldmetrix) impressively demonstrated the potential of optical data transmission for future space missions.
The updates from the working groups – from ALPIN to 4GreenSociety to the quantum community – underscored the depth and breadth of the platform's content. A possible new working group on mobility was also discussed.
The meeting was rounded off by a supporting programme on the previous day, which included factory tours at PROFACTOR in Steyr and MIBA High Tech Coatings in Vorchdorf. A special moment was the joint boat trip across Lake Fuschl, which encouraged personal exchanges in a relaxed atmosphere.
A big thank you goes to SONY DADC for the perfect organisation and warm hospitality, which included a tour of the factory and lunch in the company canteen.
JOANNEUM RESEARCH is highly motivated about the upcoming activities within Photonics Austria. As an active member, we are helping to shape the future of photonics in Austria.
