The project
GENDERACTIONplus2027 runs from 2026 to 2028 and is funded by Horizon Europe. The project builds on the experience of its predecessor, GENDERACTIONplus, and aims to strengthen inclusive gender equality and develop coherent strategies within the European Research Area (ERA).
Our activities in the project
Joanneum Research, together with Vinnova, is involved in coordinating the research funding organisation Community of Practice. This involves bringing together funding bodies from several European countries to exchange experiences and develop expertise, methods and tools that strengthen gender equality and inclusion in research and innovation.
“Research funding organisations play a key role in implementing ERA’s objectives. After all, they define what is considered eligible for funding. In our research, we have seen just how much individual research funding organisations can contribute to gender equality, and that it is sometimes the simple things that make a difference,” says Helene Schiffbänker, who leads JR’s work.

Details of the project
Project goals
- Strengthen networking and policy coordination through the transnational network
- Enhance skills for the design, implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation of inclusive and intersectional gender equality policies across the ERA
- Develop tools to strengthen inclusive GE and GM in research and innovation
- Monitor progress, enable uptake, and ensure sustainability of outcomes
A key feature of the project is the ‘Community of Practice’, which consists of two circles. One brings together representatives of national authorities, whilst the other focuses on research and innovation funding organisations. Through mutual learning, the exchange of experiences and joint activities, the participants contribute to the development, validation and implementation of the project’s results.
