Abstract:
INTRODUCTION Digital innovation to support nursing practice requires a clear understanding of everyday workflows. The N!CA project aims to improve nursing workflows through digital solutions and process innovation. METHODS Field observations and co-creation workshops were conducted in Austrian hospitals and nursing homes to analyze nursing workflows and identify improvement potentials. RESULTS Heterogeneous processes were identified across six workflow domains. Four priority areas for (digital) innovation emerged: patient involvement in nursing assessment, nursing handover, interdisciplinary rounds, and medication management. DISCUSSION Findings provide a basis for workflow optimization and technology-enabled solutions to enhance nursing practice, efficiency, and patient-centered care.
