The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant disruption on labour markets worldwide, intensified trends such as digitalisation and caused a mismatch between supply and demand. In Styria, these differences particularly affected care and software development. AMS Styria and the province of Styria are implementing measures to increase the employment opportunities of people who have lost their jobs during the pandemic through training and adapting their skills to future labour market needs. The report analyses changes in demand for occupations and skills on the Styrian labour market based on job advertisements from March 2020 to May 2021. The analysis shows that demand for job advertisements fell by 12%, especially in the manufacturing and tourism/hospitality sectors, while it increased slightly in areas such as construction and office/marketing. Job requirements are becoming increasingly specific and less transferable, with professional, IT and soft skills playing an important role. The report highlights the importance of a balanced interplay of these skills in order to meet future labour market needs.
