The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and JOANNEUM RESEARCH signed a cooperation agreement on 15 January 2025, which extends and further strengthens their long-standing and successful cooperation.
Solutions for the safety of the population through cooperation
The cooperation is intended to further strengthen the BMI's capacity for innovation in order to develop effective solutions for the security of the Austrian population. At a time of rapid technological progress and increasing global challenges, it is crucial that the BMI continues to develop its capabilities.
The collaboration to date has already proven successful in numerous joint projects in the field of security research. A current example of this is the KIRAS project NoiseSens, which is being led by JOANNEUM RESEARCH. As part of this project, a measuring device is being developed that will enable the police to secure forensic evidence of modified vehicles with increased noise emissions at tuning events. The signing of the cooperation agreement is a logical step towards further consolidating and expanding the successful partnership.
Digital security research
The cooperation focusses on security research, in particular the development of technologies to improve digital security. For the research organisation JOANNEUM RESEARCH, the cooperation with the BMI means the long-term strengthening of its business area Security and defence, which also focuses on the topics of systemic security and resilience.
