Summer, sun, holiday internship!

About 40 summer interns are getting a taste of research at our sites this year. The activities are as diverse as our research.

For many young people, a summer internship is their first step into the world of work. It gives them the opportunity to explore career options, test their skills and become more aware of their interests. This summer, exactly 38 school pupils and students are getting a taste of research at one of our six locations.

Summer internship: a colourful variety of tasks

From working with microscopes to characterising samples, classifying land use data, developing algorithms for 3D data analysis, machine learning or remote sensing, to video shooting – you can do a summer internship in a wide variety of areas at our research company.

Most of the interns – 22 in total – are working at the DIGITAL institute this year, 7 are gaining professional experience at MATERIALS, 5 at ROBOTICS, one at POLICIES and one in the Infrastructure and Facility Services (IFS) department. The youngest are 15 and the oldest is 29 years young. During Welcome Days in July and August, they gained their first insights into the company at the JOANNEUM RESEARCH headquarters and were warmly welcomed by our managing director Heinz Mayer, authorised signatory Helmut Wiedenhofer, Karoline Eder from the human resources & diversity department, and Maria Hingsamer and Ferdinand Golja from the works council.
