EXCESS: FleXible user-CEntric Energy poSitive houseS

Duration:

09/2019

11/2024

Total Project Duration

4 Years

Creating positive energy buildings throughout Europe with innovative technical solutions
EXCESS - Live in positive energy

The project

The EU funded EXCESS project brings together 21 partners from 8 countries to demonstrate how buildings can consume almost no energy and have a positive energy balance. 4 innovative pilot projects spanning the Nordic, continental, oceanic and Mediterranean climate zones will introduce new technical solutions that enable buildings to generate more renewable energy than they consume over the course of a year.

Our activities in the project

Our central task is to manage and coordinate the entire project. In addition, we carry out techno-economic analyses and life cycle assessments for the pilot projects. The aim of EXCESS is not only to test the innovative ideas from the pilot projects, but also to validate and share them with others so that Positive Energy Buildings (PEB) can be replicated throughout Europe.

Details of the project

The main goals of EXCESS

  • Development of new materials, technologies and integrated technical systems required for Positive Energy Buildings (PEB) in different climate zones
  • Optimising the interaction of local generation, storage and consumption at building and district level to enable interactions with the electricity grid, exploit new ICT opportunities and open up new sources of earnings
  • Demonstration of positive energy solutions for residential buildings in the EU's main climate zones
  • Supporting a user-centred approach that incorporates the aspects of users into every optimisation process
  • Promoting co-innovation, replication and exploitation activities with a broad range of stakeholders to maximise the technical, social and economic impact of the project and prepare a future market introduction of the PEB concept
