The influence of adipocytes on the development and treatment of chronic wounds

Understanding and treating chronic wounds better is the aim of the recently approved BRIDGE project headed by Ass.Prof.in Mag.a Dr.in Petra Kotzbeck. An integral part of this project, in collaboration with the Viennese start-up AKRIBES Biomedical GmbH to find new factors that are significantly involved in the development of chronic wounds. The project aims to clarify what role adipocytes play in the development of chronic wounds. It also aims to determine how the crosstalk between adipocytes, keratinocytes and fibroblasts influences wound closure in the context of a chronic wound and whether adipocytes can represent a new, innovative therapeutic target. Ass.Prof.ⁱⁿ Mag.^a Drⁱⁿ Petra Kotzbeck. Integraler Bestandteil dieses Projekts ist es, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Wiener Start-up AKRIBES Biomedical GmbH, neue Faktoren zu finden, die maßgeblich an der Entstehung chronischer Wunden beteiligt sind. Das Projekt soll aufklären, welche Rolle Adipozyten bei der Entstehung chronischer Wunden spielen. Darüber hinaus soll bestimmt werden, wie der Crosstalk zwischen Adipozyten, Keratinozyten und Fibroblasten den Wundverschluss im Kontext einer chronischen Wunde beeinflusst, und ob Adipozyten ein neues, innovatives Therapietarget darstellen können.
