Digital Twin Lab: Surveying equipment from RIEGL

Innovative LiDAR-Technologie aus Österreich für DIGITAL.

DIGITAL has purchased three laser scanning systems for the Digital Twin Lab following a public tender. On the occasion of the delivery of a complete and fully integrated ground, air and vehicle-based surveying system, an invitation was also extended to visit the RIEGL facilities in Horn. A delegation from JOANNEUM RESEARCH with Managing Director Heinz Mayer was able to see the complexity and depth of production at the site for themselves during a tour of the RIEGL operating and production facilities in Horn.

Digital Twin Lab in Klagenfurt

Equipped with this technology from Austria, the Digital Twin Lab at JOANNEUM RESEARCH now makes it possible for Austrian companies to easily access state-of-the-art laser scanning technology and development services from Klagenfurt. The digital twins of traffic routes, infrastructure, building complexes, agricultural areas and industrial plants, for example, created on the basis of RIEGL LiDAR systems are used in the implementation of digital processes, for example in planning, simulation, control and AI-supported information management.

Matthias Rüther, Director of DIGITAL, Institute for Digital Technologies at JOANNEUM RESEARCH: "The digitalisation of processes and cooperation at the location are the keys to a secure future: the development of realistic digital spaces will be essential in order to remain fit for the future. And we will continue to build up expertise to support companies with innovations and strengthen their resilience. The Digital Twin Lab can open up completely new implementation possibilities. We are delighted that this is possible in collaboration with an established Austrian company."

Managing Director Andreas Ullrich, Technical Director at RIEGL: "We are proud that, as an Austrian company, we were able to equip the JOANNEUM RESEARCH Digital Twin Lab project with our laser scanning systems. It is highly impressive for us to see the innovative research and developments in the field of digitisation and the creation of 'spatial digital twins' based on the highly accurate RIEGL survey data. The projects presented in the fields of autonomous driving, precise driving simulations and traffic monitoring in conjunction with AI technologies, for example, ensure that JOANNEUM RESEARCH and the Digital Twin Lab play an important pioneering role in advancing basic research for the development of new transport concepts and technologies. We wish Patrick Luley and his team every success in realising their goals!"
