Over the summer, they gain valuable practical experience at our institutes and business units and learn about the diversity of applied research. A total of five female students are undertaking an FFG student placement, whilst twelve school pupils are taking part in the FFG school pupil placement. The group comprises 17 girls and 23 boys.
The summer interns are based at the ROBOTICS, LIFE, DIGITAL, POLICIES, MATERIALS and HEALTH institutes, as well as within the Infrastructure & Facility Services (IFS) division. There, they work alongside our researchers and experts on current projects – ranging from laboratory work and materials analysis to software development and geodata processing, as well as organisational tasks.
A successful start is particularly important to us.
That is why we are holding Welcome Days at our head office on 16 July and 13 August. During these events, summer interns will get to know JOANNEUM RESEARCH as a company, gain an insight into our fields of research and have the opportunity to network across our various institutes.
Three examples illustrate just how varied the tasks are:
Hanna Dornhofer is studying German language and literature and assists with reception and visitor services at the company’s head office, ensuring that visitors, post and organisational processes run smoothly.
Lorenz Kreiter, a business administration student, he works in the Infrastructure & Facility Services department on topics such as energy and leased space management.
Lena Jernej is studying Geospatial Technologies and is assisting the Remote Sensing and Geoinformation research group with a project on the detection of photovoltaic modules using active learning.
A summer internship offers far more than just an initial insight into the world of work. It gives young people the opportunity to learn about scientific methods, gain practical experience and discover which career paths they would like to pursue.
At the same time, they enrich our teams with new ideas, curiosity and commitment.
