OPEN-TeaLeaF: Open and Portable Mobile Robots as Teaching and Learning Factories

Duration:

01/2023

12/2023

Total Time:

1 Year

We are developing portable teaching and learning sets called TeaLeaF kits to inspire pupils and teachers for tasks in production and manufacturing.

The Project

How are robots made accessible to everyone?

These learning and teaching kits provide access to otherwise expensive equipment and encourage curiosity among young people through hands-on learning experiences. The kits are distributed by mail and are returned after use. This means that students and teachers from all over Europe can benefit from them.

Our activities within the project

Our task is to design and build a mobile robot platform that can also be shipped. Our OPEN-TeaLeaF robots support learning through the Skills.move learning platform and serve as knowledge multipliers. Additionally, we provide training courses for teaching staff in Austrian schools to evaluate the concept directly in the classroom.

Project Details

As part of the OPENTeaLeaF project, portable and easily accessible teaching and learning sets (TeaLeaF sets) are being developed to stimulate the curiosity of pupils and teaching staff for manufacturing tasks. During the learning programme, different modules - so-called learning nuggets - can be completed, which would normally require expensive equipment. Thanks to the TeaLeaF kits, these are easily accessible to everyone.

The kits are intended to be easily accessible and available throughout Europe. Furthermore, we organise workshops for teaching staff (Train the Trainer) to ensure that the didactic principles empower teachers to use the sets in the classroom, promoting visibility and acceptance of this topic.

Why are we doing this project?
Europe has a significant need for individuals who are passionate about mechanical engineering to maintain competitiveness on a global scale. We seek individuals who can establish new businesses, lead the digital transformation of existing enterprises and contribute to the development of new products and services. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between STEM activities at school level and professional life by introducing professional tools in an easily accessible way for students (aged 14-19) and teachers. Professional tools are often expensive, making it unrealistic to expect schools, parents or children to invest in them.
