Energy communities are currently in popular demand. They are based on the idea of citizens generating and sharing renewable energy.

Since April, researchers from the EEG Mörtschach research project have been investigating which steps need to be taken to set up a renewable energy community  in a municipality. Which data is needed and how to obtain this data. Furthermore, simulations have been carried out to analyse whether such an energy community makes sense from an economic perspective and what effect additional participants (households, SMEs) have. The results are currently being shared with other Carinthian municipalities.

The project was supervised by JOANNEUM RESEARCH in co-operation with DIH Süd, the  Montanuniversität Leoben and with the support of the KEM Region Oberes Mölltal.
