Decentralised energy systems & energy economics

The growing expansion of renewable energies and the decentralisation of the energy system require new business models, technological solutions and organisational forms. Our microeconomic analyses are based on consumption and production profiles in order to evaluate the self-consumption and grid feed-in of prosumers, energy communities, companies and positive energy districts.

 

Energy efficiency

The transition to climate neutrality requires the exploitation of comprehensive energy efficiency potential in production processes and infrastructures. With Green Photonics, we offer comprehensive solutions for energy-efficient optical structures – from simulation and prototyping to large-scale, cost-efficient manufacturing. To optimise efficiency and performance in production processes, we rely on digital tools for data acquisition and advanced analysis methods.

User experience for the energy transition

With our social science expertise and experience in stakeholder management, we systematically analyse opportunities and barriers to the market diffusion of energy-efficient technologies and products. In doing so, we link real customer behaviour with potential for long-term customer loyalty to your company.

Assessment of energy systems

The transformation of energy systems often requires weighing up different technological and economic options. We evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of climate-friendly measures using new methods of life cycle analysis, including dynamic and prospective LCA, in order to take future technological developments and changes in process chains and the biosphere into account appropriately.

Renewable energy & energy storage

The profound transformation of the energy system towards renewable energies and climate-neutral production is leading to greater volatility in energy generation and consumption. We develop high-quality forecasting tools, control systems and energy storage solutions to efficiently balance production and demand. For energy-efficient, building-integrated photovoltaics, we are working on intelligent light control in PV modules and technologies for the efficient colouring of solar cells and solar glass.

Energy Harvesting

We are developing a piezoelectric platform to power wireless sensors/sensor networks by harvesting energy from motion and vibration. This technology enables us to realise self-sufficient, energy-efficient sensor systems for sustainable products.
