Andreas Weiss completed his studies in telematics at the Graz University of Technology and received his Ph.D. from the University of Klagenfurt. He wrote his Ph.D. thesis in collaboration with Cassidian Electronics Ulm in the field of Radar signal processing.

After his successful Ph.D. studies, Andreas Weiss was working for more than five and a half years in an industrial Research and Development department in the area of measurement devices. In this industrial background he gained a deep insight in digital design and FPGA design and development. He also has many years of experience in sensors, sensor data acquisition, algorithm design and signal processing. Since 2018 he has been a member of the research group "Smart Connected Lighting" at MATERIALS, where he also served as deputy research group leader since 2019.

With the research group "Smart Connected Lighting", Andreas Weiss takes over a dedicated and steadily growing team and will use his experience to advance the research areas "Smart Electronic Based Systems", "Communication, Connectivity and Sensing" and "Integrative Lighting". In these areas, he will continue and intensify the management, coordination and acquisition of national and international projects with international partners and customers from science, business and industry. In strong cooperation with the other research groups, he and his team will also contribute their expertise to the future scope of the MATERIALS Institute.

We wish him every success in his new area of responsibility.
